Recreation Specialist - Part-time

Department: Recreation
Location: Enterprise/Deltona, FL

SUMMARY

The Recreation Specialist serves under Residential Care within the Recreation Department in structuring, planning and implementing age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate recreational activities, while enhancing and supporting the cottage milieu. Recreation pursuits are designed to ensure the success of all Residents by helping them explore, refine, and fortify their gifts endowed by God. Recreation programs and activities provide youth in care with opportunities for normal social interaction, the acquisition of recreational and life skills, a means for a positive impulse outlet, and the chance to improve their quality of life.

EDUCATION

  • Minimum High School Graduate, or GED equivalency with post-secondary experience
  • Extensive experience in field of recreation
  • Prefer College Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or related field

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Extensive experience working in a recreation program for at risk youth
  • Must have sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics
  • Must be willing to work with youth of all ages and both genders

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Using a curriculum model, develop and implement the Recreation Department’s philosophy, goals, program structure, and policies to meet the needs of residents
  • Facilitate recreation, sports and leisure activities with residents
  • Will perform other recreation duties as assigned by the Director of Recreation .

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities at this time

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and committee members.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Florida Driver’s License
